Getting sketchy with Elle’s Studio
Hey there Magpies, it’s Rachel here and I’m using some awesome products from Elle’s Studio this month! I have always loved Elle’s Studio, they make very cool embellishments that, I don’t know, just seem a bit cooler than normal to me!
I have been struggling to scrap lately, my mojo is seriously lacking, so much so that I am going to take a little break from the design team for a few months in the new year. I need to recharge. I feel like my layouts all look the same all the time and I’m not doing anything new or fresh or exciting anymore. So hopefully some time off will get my excitement and mojo back again! I’m sure you all understand, we all have low periods of creativity every now and then.
So to kick off this month, I used sketches to get me going. This fits in well with the December Challenge over on the FB Chat & Inspiration Group which I posted yesterday. I think sketches are a great way to get started when your mojo is lacking. Sometimes I follow the sketch quite closely like I have here and sometimes I start off following a sketch and then go right off on my own way but at least it gets me started! Here’s the first sketch I used.
The papers I used on this LO are from Vicki Boutin’s Wildflower & Honey collection, I bought the 12×12 Paper Pad and used that. My title is the awesome acrylic Happiness from Elle’s Studio and I did some journalling on a Cut-Apart Label. To do the featured star on my LO I copied a large star I had on to plain vellum and cut that out. I stapled that on and then went over the top with a line of Nuvo Crystal Drops. I loved how this worked out and must try doing it again some time. The vellum stars I have also used are from Elle’s Studio but they were quite old and I think they’re out of stock now. There are similar here and here. I dotted some of those vellum stars around and then added the super cool Little Stars Acrylic Shapes. They are very cool stars, there’s some super shiny gold ones and the coloured ones are slightly frosted, I love them!
This next sketch is one a friend of mine liked and posted and it immediately got me reaching for a really old stencil in my stash and my chalks. I am sorry for using products that are old and not available these days. I try and not do that on the blog because I personally hate it when I see stuff on LO’s that I can’t buy! Invariably that’s the bit I am desperate to have right now! The chalks I’ve used I know I bought in 2005, that’s how old they are and the stencil I think I got in a kit and I don’t even know who makes it. I am sorry about that. But the sketch got me scrapping which was the bonus!
After I had chalked through my stencil I sprayed hairspray over the chalks to try and set them. It didn’t work that well and they were still smudging so I didn’t want to mess around with this LO too much. I had ordered the XOXO Love You Diecuts pack and I loved the massive title in that pack so I started with that. How cool is it! I also used the two little labels, the row of hearts and the heart tag on the left hand side of the photo from the pack too. I dotted around some acrylic hearts from my stash but you can get some very similar from Elle’s Studio here, here and here. Some Nuvo dots and a drizzled line border was all I needed to finish this LO off.
I hope I have inspired you to check out what is available from Elle’s Studio, they’re definitely worth a look for some quirky and unusual bits. I will be back on the 16th of the month with 2 more LO’s and they’re a very different style to these ones I can tell you! Please check out the FB group for the December Challenge and have a go. Sketches are a great way to get a LO going and if you enter the challenge you can be in the draw to win 1000 Magpie Points worth £10 in the shop! Do come and join us over there and have a go! See you in a couple of weeks my friends.
