Simple Stories couldn’t have found a more perfect name for their recent collection than Crafty Girl.
Featuring icons all associated with crafty hobbies including sewing, drawing and painting, or anyone who simply likes to create, this collection is perfect for anyone who loves to craft!
A real mixture of colours, this bright collection includes pinks, teals, ochre, browns, greens and orange. Do you know anyone who might like it then?
The only downside to this collection is the lack of embellishments, which is often the case with Simple Stories. However, because of all the colours in this collection you can team it with so many other ranges… I chose to combine it with some of the interactive cards and clips from the Carousel collection by Maggie Holmes for Crate, plus some jelly clips from the Hello range by Doodlebug Design Inc. and some painted wooden buttons from Freckled Fawn. And as the collection was a bit thin on papers, I picked some Elle’s Studio ones from their Noteworthy collection.
In fact, it made me realise that I must look at manufacturers I wouldn’t normally choose more often, especially when I’m after embellishments.
I was inspired by the geometric side of Noteworthy paper no. 6 and decided to use it as the basis for my first layout. After adding some stitching detail, I mounted the paper on white cardstock to give it a bit of pop. I used a selection of papers from the 6 x 8” paper pad to matt my photos, then clustered with chipboard, stickers and embellishments.
I’ve got a bit of a thing with snapchat at the moment and I wasn’t sure of a title. I reached into my thickers stash and found some oversized foam ones – I’ve forgotten how much I love thickers but they sadly seem to have gone out of fashion! Luckily there was enough letters left to make ‘big kid at (heart)’.
Having love the base of the first layout, I wanted to recreate a geometric background for my second layout too. To create this effect you can’t simply use a 6 x 8” paper pad – I used Noteworthy paper no. 1, along with two papers from the 6 x 8” pad.
I’ve recently gained a kitten, who I discovered was playing with my embroidery threads.
He’s a very crafty little kitten and so the photos were more than apt!
One pink thread was beyond unraveling so rather than throw it away, I decided to include in on the layout.
The title stickers and thickers again came from my stash… sometimes it’s good to dig into your old stash and use it with new product – afterall isn’t that what getting crafty is all about?
