Niki here, all in a flutter over the Fancy Pants ‘Flutter’ collection. I thought the colours were very ‘me’ when I looked at this collection online but when it arrived I absolutely loved it. It is pretty without being overly girly and the designs are really lovely and aren’t themed at all, which works very well for me.  Within the collection is a sheet of gold foiled paper – plain with no pattern on it and another, with a chevron design. The colour of this gold is gorgeous, it is super bright and a real true gold and with these sheets in the collection I didn’t even need to get out my Minc Machine!

I knew I wanted to do something special with the plain gold foil sheet, and I’m on a bit of a mission to actually use the most expensive bit of kit I own – my Silhouette machine, so I choose a loopy background design and set my machine to work. Once cut I filled a few of the loops with Flutter papers, then mounted it onto a piece of plain white cardstock, raising up the filled loops with sticky foam pads – the effect in real life looks great.  With such a busy background I kept my layout quite simple. I used a couple of chipboard frames left over from a pack of Maggie Holmes frames (sadly now discontinued, which is a shame becuase I would have bought two more packets!) and a number of dies from the Flutter die cut pack. I’ve also used a Flutter flair badge.

I picked up on the non-pink colour tones for my next layout as I wanted to use a picture of my little boy. I still managed to sneak in a bit of the pretty gold foil though. I used small pieces of Flutter papers, a number of the die-cuts and a massive title cut on my silhouette. I’m not usually a fan of anything blackboard/chalkboard but a couple of those black die cuts worked well on this layout.

I’m a big fan of Thickers and am also cutting more and more titles on my Silhouette these days, and usually really hate the large alpha sticker sheets that come in collection packs – they are usually the one thing left over when I’m done making layouts with a kit, so I challenged myself to use the ones in this kit. They were all so higgledy-piggledy that I knew I just wouldn’t manage to use them for my titles, so I cascaded them down from one corner of a plain sheet (from the Flutter collection of course) to create a background. I should say that these werent stickers, they were die cuts so they were super easy to arrange on the page without them sticking in inconvenient places.  I raised a few of them up on sticky foam pads and filled in some of the gaps with some of the tiny circles that were in the die-cut set.  I’ve again had to keep the remainder of my layout really small and simple so that a) you can actually see my photo on top of that busy background and b) to not cover up too much of that background I spent so long making!

The non-themed papers and the die cuts just made making these layouts come together so easily. For this one I used a triangle background which I cut on my Silhouette and then used minimal papers and die-cuts to make the rest of the layout. I got my sewing machine out for this one too – I sewed through the tag at the top and the gold hearts and circles. I’ve used a matching Flutter flair badge and a title cut on my Silhouette.

One thing I loved about this Collection is that most (maybe all?) of the papers were patterned on one side and plain-ish on the reverse. They weren’t completely plain, they are solid colours with a subtle tone-on-tone pattern on them. I love this as it means you don’t get overwhelmed by busy patterns. It also means that if yu aren’t keen on one pattern, you’ll definitely like the other side becuase it’s quite subtle, but still coordinates with all the other papers. For this layout I chose a subtle pink pattern for my background and sewed some scalloped circles onto it which I’d cut on my Silhouette. I added a few strips of Flutter paper at the bottom of the layout and again kept my paper layers small. I added large cut shapes for my title and used more of the die cuts from the pack and another flair badge.  To finish off I cut out some of the small circles from another Flutter paper which I randomly places on the layout and I sewed through them.
