Embracing White Cardstock
Hi everyone and welcome to March, not sure when we got to the 3rd month of the year already. This month I have decided to do something different for me, and step away from the patterned paper background, and embrace white.
Whilst I was looking through my stash I came across some of the beautiful American Crafts Woodgrain texture cardstock, if you have not seen this in the shop then you really need to go look at it. You can see from the photos below how it just adds a bit of interest to a project, it is available in some fab natural colours too.
I also wanted to limited my supplies as I was trying to embrace the clean and tranquil and picked two 6×6 pads to use, the Dear Lizzy Serendipity and Becky Higgins Desktop Edition. I of course also picked a few more bits from my stash too, as I find it hard to stick to a plan and not stick every embellishment I love on one page.
First page up this month ended up featuring mainly the Kiss Kiss collection from Crate Paper, the colours and embellishments were just too cute to not use. I decided to choose a photo of me and the man on our belated valentines date. I used the beautiful cut a part cards from Pebbles for my title; I just loved that piece of paper and all the cute sayings. As usual I will be sharing my process of making my pages over on my YouTube Channel this week.
I could not start with just a plain white background so I attacked the background with my beloved roller stamps and added some mist. I find this really helps to ground the layers that I place on top and to stop it floating around the page.
The woodgrain texture took the stamping and mist well, and I love the imperfect nature of it. I decided to use it for my next page too.
I went for a much simpler design for this page, the photo placement is one I use a lot when I want to include 3 4×6 photos. I apologies for the wonky photo of this page. It also gave me a change to showcase some of the papers I love from the paper pads I selected. I love the foiled papers in the Becky Higgins Desktop Edition, and the whole eclectic selection of papers in this pad too.
As I was trying to embrace the minimalist approach, well minimalist for me, I kept the embellishment to a minimum. I used the globe die cut from the Kiss Kiss collection and it worked great with this travel theme LO, I like to be able to use my themed supplies on a variety of projects.
I also took my title for this page from a piece of cut a part paper, like my first LO; this is a great thing to do if you struggle with titles. This piece of paper from Amy Tangerine has so many great saying, and I recommend it for this purpose.
My last LO this month sees me taking my rule of a white background and stretching that very far! I had a fab crafty evening with some friends this month and was playing with lots of stencils and mists, and this background paper was a happy accident. I used this paper for cleaning off my stencils after use, I love templates so much and they are great for adding backgrounds to help ground all the layers on my pages.
The only downside of this is that the paper was very warped due to the heavy inking, and the fact it is an old piece of one sided paper that I did not love. So of you have some older paper in your collection don’t be afraid to turn it over and just use it for the plain side.
I kept my layers pretty simple as I wanted to showcase the background papers, I again used embellishments from the Kiss Kiss collection and the cut a part paper form Amy Tangerine. I was also determined to use up the last of the older script Thickers so I can feel better about wanting to buy some of the newer ones.
I really enjoyed this experiment with a non-patterned paper background and feel that I still managed to get it to fit my style, and I am finding myself being more productive with limiting my supplies too. I of course will be running to the NEW section of the store over the coming weeks to stock up on all the new patterned papers from the wonderful collections coming in, so even if my pages are occasionally minimalist my stash won’t be!!
