Crazy Cowboys Scrapbook Layout – Jen Hadfield – Groovy Darlin – Wendy Meffan
Creating playful scrapbook layouts is always easier when you start with bold photos and a fun collection. For this 12 x 12 layout, I worked with two cowboy “wanted” style photos and built the page around the bright and retro feel of the Groovy Darlin collection by Jen Hadfield.
I began with a sheet of 12 x 12 Disco Fever paper as the base. I cut the large disco ball out from the paper and edged it with white cardstock and then reattached to the paper. I also added a white border around the edge of the layout. The vibrant background gave the page instant energy and complemented the fun western theme of the photos. The two “wanted” photos were placed centrally so they would act as the main focal point while still leaving space for large embellishments around them.
One of the things I love about this collection is the size of the embellishments. Many of them are quite large, which makes them perfect statement pieces on a layout. I fussy cut several of the larger designs from patterned paper and layered them around the photos to create clusters. Because some embellishments were printed on washi style paper, I adhered them onto white cardstock first and then trimmed around them. This created a clean white border behind each piece and helped them stand out against the busy background.
To add more interest and texture, I incorporated ephemera pieces and a few small paper elements throughout the page. I tucked them behind the photos and layered them with the fussy cut embellishments to build depth. Stickers from the collection were the finishing touch, adding little pops of color and playful phrases that tied the whole design together.
The final layout feels bright, fun, and full of personality. The mix of large embellishments, layered paper pieces, and the quirky cowboy photos makes the page feel lively while still balanced. It’s a great reminder that sometimes bold embellishments and a colourful background are all you need to make your photos shine.
