Crate Paper – Gingham Garden | Part Three | Amy Kattenbelt
Hello Magpies, Amy here again today to share my 3rd layout using Crate paper’s new Gingham Garden collection.
For this layout I decided to use a sketch I designed for a Hey Little Magpie Cyber Crop a year ago. Sketches can be a great way to get your layout started when you are struggling for ideas.
To create the vertical column, which is shown as pale green in the sketch, I decided to try something different than using a patterned paper. I started by marking off the column with some old washi tape. I then used lots of floral stickers from the sticker book, along with matching floral stamps from the collections stamp set. I love the mix of black and white stamping with the pastel coloured stickers. I cut the stickers so they had straight edges to place up against the taped off section. I then removed the washi tape when this area was complete.
I cut 5 very point triangles out of scraps of patterned paper from the collection. Picking one patterned paper from each colour (yellow, blue, tan, green and pink). I used a 0.8 black marker to outline them. I stuck them down, and as per the sketch I then machine stitched down the middles with black thread.
I matted my two small square photos with white and then attached them to my layout. I added a Hey Little Magpie Watercolour Camera Flair. They are super cute.
Next I added some of the small clear leaf stickers from the sticker book to the tops of the 5 triangles. I added some puffy stickers and stamped some stars too. I then added a splattering of fine black ink.
My layout doesn’t have a super obvious title, but I did add a washi sticker that reads “my reason to smile”. However my journalling is pretty prominent in the design. I used the alphabet stamps from the collection. I love these, and will be using them a lot in the future!
I hope my reuse of an old sketch has inspired you to get creating. I will be back next month sharing yet more ideas with this gorgeous collection. Take Care,
