Colourful B Side from Basic Grey!
Welcome to October Magpies! Rachel here and this month I chose to use the amazing new collection from Basic Grey, B Side. I LOVE this collection, it’s so bright and colourful, I just wish it came with more embellishments cause there wasn’t enough for me!
I have 5 LO’s to share this month. I actually made more but I didn’t want to overload the blog with too many! I ordered the Collection Pack of papers, which includes 1 sheet of each of the papers, the 12×12 Cardstock Alphabet Sheet, the 5×12 Element Stickers and the 5×12 Journal Stickers too. So it’s well worth it to order the collection this way. I went back and ordered more single sheets of my favourite papers as well…. I’m greedy like that! On my first LO, I actually used the cover sheet from the collection pack. I cut around the printed papers and used it as my background! That’s how much I love this collection, I’m not letting anything go to waste!
I used my favourite Chalkboard Alphabet Stickers from Crate Paper Journey. I know I bleat on about this alphabet but it’s just so awesome! The extra large letters make such an impact on a LO and I think they’re a must have for anyone’s stash.
So my first LO I used the cover sheet from the Collection Pack as my background. I cut off the top two designs and just stuck it down. It was really busy but I loved it and decided to work on that for the subject. I’ve been suffering from anxiety this year and sometimes my head feels a bit cluttered and busy so the paper worked perfectly! I did my title with Thickers from Crate Paper Craft Market and the Chalkboard Alphabet and then I scribbled on the O to signify the chaos and found the headphones on the Amy Tangerine, Finders Keepers Puffy Stickers sheet and thought it worked perfectly on this LO. I’m embellished with lots of little bits and bobs, some punched tags, I made the white tag at the bottom to journal on by cutting a strip of white and then sipping off the corners, then I added some MAMBI Puffy Arrow Stickers, A Wood Veneer from Pinkfresh Studio and dotted around the edge of my background paper with a Sharpie to add extra ‘chaos’.
I also bought the Self Adhesive Chipboard Words & Shapes and used a couple of the words n my titles this month. I know when I saw this sheet I did wonder about the colours and thought it didn’t really co-ordinate with the rest of the collection, but they do work perfectly when you see them in real life.
This LO is super simple after the last one! I went for a grid based LO and used one of the Chipboard words as my title. I also used the Amy Tangerine, Finders Keepers Memento Green Puffy Thickers which match the B Side collection perfectly! Unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment but if you sign up for an email alert when they’re restocked, Hey Little Magpie will let you know when they come back to the store. I used the Ransom Note pink paper and the Shine On green and then made a banner out of the black spotty Prom Date paper. I used some little tags and things from the Cardstock Die Cuts pack and popped some bits up on foam pads for interest. My journalling is on one of the new Teresa Collins, Signature Essentials Matchbook Stickers and I am loving those labels for journalling on. You get 6 sheets in the pack and as you can see by the sticker I’ve used here, they’re not that small. I will be buying more of those!
This pack of Resin Buttons & Flowers is just lush! I used 3 of them on the LO below and I think they make a big impact. They’re so pretty, I think I’ll have to buy another pack!
I also got the Cardstock Fold-Over Photo Frames, (yes, I ordered everything!) and these are so much more than I was expecting. I think I was just expecting frames that I could fold over a photo, and that’s what they are, but they’re more! Each frame is double sided and there’s die-cuts on each frame that pop out too. So you get double sided frames and ephemera/die-cuts too. I was surprised at what came in the pack and it’s well worth the money.
Here’s a closer look at what comes in the pack, the words and things pop out of the middle of the frames. I have used one of the frames on my LO below and also the black ‘heart this’ die cut circle as well.
I’ve used a few different papers on this LO, there’s a couple from the 6×6″ Paper Pad, I love the smaller sized patterns in the 6×6 pad and used the pink paper and also the black spot paper that’s behind the frame & title. The ‘yes’ and ‘epic’ cards are from the Journalling Cards paper and I also used a strip from the B Side of that paper (lol!) and a strip of the black & white striped Well Yes paper. I used one of the frames from the frames pack I talked about above and backed it with pink spotted acetate from WRMK Clearly Bold cause it matched the pink from B Side so well. My title uses older black & white Thickers and the ‘forever fave‘ comes from the new Dear Lizzy Documentary line. I have embellished with the buttons I talked about above, an exclusive Hey Little Magpie That’s Life Flair Badge, Puffy Arrows from MAMBI, and some of the stickers from the 5×12 Journal Stickers sheet. The picture on this LO is of a Yoda golf head cover which I got for my partner and the thing makes me laugh so much, I had to scrap it!
I used one of the awesome MAMBI Puffy Arrow Words on the LO below and I think it makes a great impact on the LO. You all know I’m a massive fan of the MAMBI Puffy Stickers, they’re so affordable and so cool, I have a whole load of them that I store on a massive paperclip, I think they’re an absolute essential in anyone’s stash.
This next LO makes me laugh. Please excuse me if I waffle too much in these blog posts, I’m sure nobody even reads anything anyway and just scrolls through the pictures! I never know whether people want more writing or less or what, please leave me a comment if you like the waffling or would rather just have links to all the products and less writing. Hey, if you’re reading this, just leave me a comment saying peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, so I know at least one person actually reads what I write lol! Anyway, the story behind this LO is my Father In-Law, Bryan, and his nemesis hole at the local golf course. Hole 8 is a 3 par and Bryan would always go straight into the trees on the left hand side and then we’d spend ages looking for the ball. So finally on Sept 16th, he got a par and I was there to witness it!
I printed my Instagram photo at 3×3″ so I cut 4 squares of paper from the 6×6 Paper Pad to 3×3 and made a grid. I used some of the cut off strips from the 12×12 papers above and below my grid and then added a strip of the black & white striped Well Yes paper down either side. I have embellished with some of the die cuts from the Cardstock Die Cuts pack and popped some of those on foam pads for extra ‘pop’, some of my favourite MAMBI Puffy Arrows, Brights and also the ‘Wednesday’ is from the Puffy Days Arrows as well.
My next LO is pretty simple but I think it looks a little more complex, because I’ve used cards from the Journalling Cards paper which I’ve shown below. This is a great paper, I often buy the journalling cards sheets from collections and don’t end up using them much but I used some of these cards on my Yoda LO above and also this one below. I definitely had to purchase an extra sheet of this paper, I can see me using it a lot! I also love the green linked design on the B Side too, the green in this collection is lush!
The fab ‘yay’ word I’ve used on the LO below is from the Cardstock Die-Cuts pack and there are some awesome bits and pieces in this pack. I love to take all the ephemera out and put it in a dish on my craft desk, so I can have a little rummage through when I’m creating. I am dying to use those eyelashes, they’re so cool and I need to find a picture worthy of using them on lol!
So my last LO is one I was quite excited about. I’ve had a really bad year health wise this year. I started the year with a cold which turned into pneumonia and then I developed a blood clot in my lung (my second PE). I spent a long time, really quite ill and walking up the stairs would leave me panting for breath. In looking for the cause of my PE they found I had a fatty liver so I eventually started dieting and finally, on May 6th, I got my butt on the treadmill and walked for 20 minutes! Taking that first step was so hard but now I go on the treadmill or exercise bike pretty much every day and I’ve nearly lost 2 stone now. But that first step, for a morbidly obese girl with a blood clot in her lung, was bloody hard!
I’ve used 2 of the journalling cards from the Journalling Cards paper on either side of my photo and then a strip of the reverse side of that paper above and below my grid. My title is the ‘today’ from the Chipboard Shapes & Words self adhesive sticker sheet and then I used the pink alphabet stickers from the 12×12 Cardstock Alphabet Sticker sheet and used the ‘yay’ from the Cardstock Die-Cuts pack. I used some MAMBI Puffy Arrows because hey, when do I not use one of those arrows on a LO? And I did a row of Hey Little Magpie Adhesive Rhinestones below everything and some Black Loose Pearls above, because I needed some bling on this special LO!
So that’s some of what I created using the amazing & colourful B Side collection from Basic Grey. I am so impressed with this line, it’s just lush and I found it so easy to use. I honestly wish there were more embelishments in this line cause I am sure I could use the heck out of anything! I still have a lot of the Highline collection which Basic Grey released last year and B Side does co-ordinate really well with that too. So let me know what you think of this line, do you love it as much as I do?
