Color Study – Vicki Boutin | Amy Kattenbelt | Part 2

Hi Magpies, Amy here, sharing two more layouts using Vicki Boutin’s Color Study collection. Its a bright and colourful collection, full of fun ephemera icons and every day usable phrases. In my opinion its such a versatile collection I know I will return to it again and again. For these two layouts I have been inspired by two different pattern papers that I have used for each of my background.

Right Here

For this layout I used the patterned paper called Array Of Colors as my base. Its a rainbow sunburst with some horizontal elements running along the bottom. Its been such a popular paper I am sure you may have spotted it before!

I started my layout by cutting out all the triangles and distressing the edges. By sticking them back down to a piece of white card I managed to add a lot of texture to the patterned paper. For even more texture I then stitched down some of the triangles on my sewing machine in black thread. I punched some little hearts out of scraps of paper and vellum. They were layered up and stick to the triangles in a random manner for added detail.

With this background, the natural placement for a photo is where the triangles converge, so that’s where I placed my photo. First I framed it with one of the ephemera frames. My title was also from the ephemera in the collection. I added two budgie stickers on opposite corners of my photo so that they are looking in towards the photo. I have to say I think these budgies are one my favourites in the collection!

To finish the layout, I stamped my journalling under the title, added some word stickers and a ephemera tab. Lastly I added some little puffy stickers too.

You Color My World

For this layout I used the patterned paper called Mood Board. Again, its another paper that has been used as the full background, its one of the things Vicki is great at!

You might be able to spot that I’ve also gone with a circles theme for this layout. I was inspired to do this because my photo involves my son playing football. I added some black stamping to the top left and lower right of the paper. I used the dotty stamp from one of the stamp sets in the collection.

I layered my photos up on top of some of the large rectangular ephemera pieces. The title was also an ephemera piece. I then cut out some of the pretty gold foiled circles from the speciality vellum sheet and stuck them to my layout.

As with th efirst layout, I stamped some journalling beneath my title, and then finished off the layout with a few stickers. My favourite of which is the butterfly sticker which I added pop dots to the wings and placed in the letter O of my title.

I hope my layouts show you how easy it is to create colourful layouts using some of these cleverly designed patterned papers as your background. I will be back in August with some new layouts. In the mean time Stay Safe and Take Care,
