Color Study – Vicki Boutin | Amy Kattenbelt | Part 1

Hi Magpies, this month I have been scrapping with Vicki Boutin’s Color Study collection. Its such a vibrant collection featuring all the colours of the rainbow. I may have bought pretty much everything of the collection because I know its going to be one that I want to return to again again. Its suitable for so many themes and occasions. One of my favourite ways to use this collection is to pick a colour combination of 2 or 3 main colours on my layout. So that’s what I have done in the the two layouts below.

Yes You Can!

For my first layout I really wanted to use Pink and Blues as these are the colours in my photo.

I started by creating a mixed media background on a sheet of Vicki Boutin’s Foundation Paper. I used my favourite stencil from one of the stencil packs and Vicki’s Sugared Strawberry Texture Paste from the original texture paste pack. I then used the stamp set to add blue polka dots and some black shapes.

I trimmed the background down by half an inch, distressed the edge and then added a strip of the blue and white paper called ‘Mood Board‘ behind. I curled the white background and ripped a V shape to add even more texture. I added my title from the puffy phrase stickers.

I cut lots of triangles using a punch from the 6×8 paper pad, selecting all the blue and pink papers. I layered them up into small groups and stuck them to my layout so that they all pointed in to my photo.

Next I added 3 of the flowers from the layered flower pack. Then I added various stickers from the sticker book, sticker sheet and puffy stickers. The layout was finished with some pink stamped journalling and splatter of fine black ink.

Keep Looking Up

For my second layout I picked the colours yellow, green and turquoise. Again I started by making a mixed media background. This time I used the Vicki’s Crushed Pineapple texture paste through the polka dot stencil. I cut chevrons from green and turquoise paper from the 6×8 paper pad and placed them in vertical rows pointing up and down to the photo. I added a thin strip of yellow patterned paper to the left hand edge of my layout. I added some black star stamping. Can you see how all these elements are similar to my first layout, yet also looks very different.

I doodled some black dashed lines down the centres of the chevrons (mainly cause I was too lazy to get my sewing machine out!). My title was created using the Thickers from the Color Study collection. I raised a few of them up on foam tape to added extra interest. The are super cool alphas, I really love them!

I added some rainbow ephemera to the right of the photo so that the colours balanced with the title. I covered the text with a beautiful butterfly sticker.

I finished off the layout with a few stickers and also some super cute teeny tiny fussy cut butterflies that were from a branding strip of one of the patterned papers.

Thank you so much for coming to look at my layouts. I will be back in a few weeks time to share some very different styled layouts using the same Color Study collection.
