This triangular designed layout is inspired by a sketch that the talented Laura R created many years ago. Its such a distinctive design that I have used again and again but always credit Laura with the original idea of the three areas linked with a line.
I used the largest circular stamp from the Tim Holtz brushstrokes set, and three shades of Pink Distress Oxide to create my background. I simply just stamped once per colour onto my white background. No extra water or splatter was needed. This shows how great this stamp set is for total beginners to mixed media backgrounds. If your new to using inks, I can totally recommend starting with a simple, non messy, controllable technique like this. I then used a black ink pen and a ruler to draw a broken line between the areas. Once i had a guide, I went back and doodled extra black lines and marks along the initial line.
I used one stamped area for my photo cluster, one for my title and the last one to add lots of pretty embellishments.
So for the bottom left area I decorated it with three of the pink flowers from the floral die cut pack, added some of the berries (TIP: the stalks of the berries were green so to make it work with my monochrome layout I drew over them with my black pen!) I added a sticker, some fussy cut butterflies and the word ‘yum’…all in pink of course!
I matted my tiny photo onto white, and then onto two different pink papers. I tore the bottom edges of these from added texture. I added one of the beautiful puffy hearts from the Happy Days collection, along with die cut hearts and enamel hearts. I also added some phrases and a flag ephemera pice.
I added my title and date around the top inked circle using the Doodlebug puffy stickers, they are a perfect colour match to some of the deeper pinks in the Happy Days collection. I then added a central titles from the Chipboard Titles set. I also added some chipboard pink hearts from the same set. I found some very old Maggie Holmes puffy stickers of a cake and tea pot which were perfect for the theme of my layout, so added those too.
Lastly at the bottom of my title cluster, I added some pink thread underneath a Hey Little Magpie Flair, which just finished off my layout perfectly.
So, I’ve shown you a layout using pink and a layout using the greens, blues and yellows of the collection. So join me in a few days time where I share with you a RAINBOW layout using all the colours!
