Working with a theme – By the Sea
Hi Everyone, and welcome to my February blog post. This month I decided to create a kit of supplies using the new My Minds Eyes By The Sea collection as the main focus. I had the perfect set of photos from my trip last year to the US, when I went whale watching. I had over 50 photos to scrap and I have managed to make a dent in these for this months post. I managed 6 pages with 20 photos being used, I think the rest I will be using in some pocket pages.
I mixed the My Minds Eye papers with some other nautical themed papers that I have purchased from the shop in the last couple of months. Some of these are out of stock now, but the great thing with themed products is that they are easy to match.

Older Collection – Basic Grey Adrift Collection.
These pages were all pretty quick to put together, and I made sure that I had room to tell all the stories of the day, which I wanted to include. I have since added my journalling on these pages, I do find when working on multiple pages for one event that I can repeat myself if I do my journalling as I go along. This way I can refer to my travel journal and make sure all the points are included.
For the first page, I used a lot of the larger die cut pieces form the Fancy Pants Die Cut pack, they added simple layers to this pages.
Throughout all of these pages I mixed the silver foiling of the MME collection with the gold from the Project Life cards and mist and I really like how it looks. These 4×6 cards are great for all types of occasions and work great for a journalling spot on a page.
For this next page I wanted to use both sides of this piece of Basic Grey Adrift paper. I have hidden the missing strip of paper behind the photo block. I have shown this process in the video that accompanies this page, which will be up on my channel this week.
The sticker pack which accompanied this collection is great as it features two different types of alpha. I love the size of the tiled alphas and they are great for adding subtitles. It also included a sheet of plain labels which I am also going to use in my pocket pages.
As soon as I saw this paper in the collection I knew I wanted to include a cluster of photos. I love pages with pre-printed designs as it make a great feature on the page.
The pops of red draw attention around the the photo too.
The MME collection features some woodgrain papers and sticker elements, these work great with the wood veneers in the collection too.
I used a piece of Fancy Pants paper for my background of this piece, the paper is a lovely texture and adds some interest. The colours also work perfectly with the MME collection.
I love wood veneers of any type, but the ones with this collection were perfect with these themed pages. Some of them would also work for general travel or summer pages.
I pulled out some neglected project life cards from my stash to give me some spots for journalling.
I also wanted to include a few photos of my boyfriend out on the boat trip. In the Fancy Pants die-cut pack their were some bits that work great with more of a love themed page. I also had to include the lobster sticker as it was so cute.
The background paper works great with the different tones of blue/turquoise in my photos and helps for the photos to all work together.
I used a mixture of fonts for my title, including the large die-cuts I really like using different fonts in my titles especially on a simpler page.
I had been hoarding this whale sticker from the Basic Grey Adrift collection and wanted to make sure I put it on the right page. This page is going to contain a lot of journalling copied from my travel journal. I used a piece of ledger paper from my stash to make a large journal block to place under my photo cluster.
The text background of this paper creates an interest to the page, without being to over powering and distracting from my own journalling.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my pages around a theme, I don’t do themes a lot but when I do I like to go all out, and this part of my travel album is going to end up being about 10-12 pages.
I also am happy to have made a dent in my travel photos and I will be back with some more travel pages next month, using more of the beautiful collections in the shop right now. Have a great month and don’t forget to check out the sale still on in the shop.
