Boys Rule by Cocoa Vanilla Studio | Niki Rowland
Hiya! Niki here with you today and I’m sharing six layouts I’ve made recently using the Boys Rule collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. This collection was soooooo popular that it sold out in record time but happily it has all been restocked. This is my favourite collection of 2018 so far and I’ve just absolutely loved creating with it.
For my first layout I wanted to document something my little boy says all the time ‘I love you more than the world’ – we get this every time we say goodbye and now my husband and I say it to each other too, it’s just so sweet. So I looked for a ‘world’ cut file and found one by Paige Evans in the Silhouette Design Store. I cut it on white card and backfilled it with a coloured paper from the Boys Rule Collection. I added that to a full sheet from the Boys Rule collection but added some mixed media colours using the packaging technique so different greens and blues would show out from behind the cut file.
I then added my photo and embellished the layout using lots of the cut apart sheet bits, ephemera, chipboard etc from the Boys Rule collection. The Thickers around the globe are mostly from the Pink Paislee Wild Child collection but I’ve also mixed in others too for a very eclectic title!
For my next layout ‘It’s coming home’ I wanted to document my boy’s growing interest in football and the Boys Rule collection made it very easy. I’ve used lots of embellishments again and the layout came together really quickly.
For this next one ‘Cool’ I used a mixture of chipboard titles and cut file words to create a typographic layout. I love the little word stickers that came on the Boys Rule sticker sheet but they didn’t show up too well on this background sheet (this is my favourite paper by the way!) so I added some strips of washi tape underneath them to make them stand out. I embellished using pieces from the cut-apart sheets, stickers, chipboard, ephemera and clear stickers.
This next layout ‘you are the best’ documents my little boy’s 5th birthday – I cut a number 5 cut file and back filled it using the 6×8 paper pad. I layered this up onto a background and added my photo and a chipboard title from the Boys Rule collection. I also added lots of little bits and pieces of ephemera, stickers, clear stickers and a few stamped stars too.
By this time I was starting to run out of stash so decided to try to use up the grey tones in the collection. I love colour so had left out a lot of the greys and this meant I didn’t have much left apart from greys! For this layout ‘Awesome’ I coupled up the greys with some of the blues too and went for a monochromatic layout. I added a few bits of ephemera and other embellishments and that fabulous ‘Awesome’ title from the chipboard accents.
And finally – this time I went for greys and greens! I was really running out at this stage so have improvised by adding some small embellishments from my stash. I added green washi and some black stitching and layered up all those grey tones underneath my photos.
Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you’ve enjoyed my layouts and will be inspired to use up your Boys Rule collection!
Happy scrapping xx
