Blast Off! with My Minds Eye

Sometimes the stars align and a paper collection turns up that is a perfect match to one of your photos. That is what happened for me with the new Blast Off collection from My Minds Eye. Click here to find Blast Off in the shop.
I had this on-ride photo from our trip to Disneyland Paris last year. It was taken on Buzz Lightyear’s laser blast ride, and whilst it’s not the greatest of photos as only one of us is looking the right way, it holds a memory and so it deserves a place in my scrapbook. Planets, rockets and stars were pretty much ideal for scrapbooking this, and the colours were a good match to all of the busy-ness and decoration that you get on the photo itself.

Alongside papers that include a holographic finish, you’ll find a selection of lovely embellishments in this range – there’s brads, puffy stickers, die cuts, stickers, enamel dots, journalling cards, and enamel pins. I also added my new favourite thickers – this chunky iridescent glitter alphabet from Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful. This page was a lot of fun to make, and really transports me back to the experience and the great time I had with my son on that ride.
Once I’d used up my one perfect photo match for the collection I went hunting for other photos that would work well. We’ve never visited a space centre, or visited the moon, so I had to go a little more laterally. I found this set of 3 photos of my eldest playing with a ribbon on a stick, pretending that he was in ninja training. The red of his outfit worked well with the papers but there was a lot of distracting detail in the background so I went ahead and cut them down from 6×4″ to 4×3″ and matted them on white cardstock edged in silver ink. I punched a whole bunch of stars from various papers in the 6×6″ paper pad, and adhered them on the diagonal – some flat, some on foam pads for dimension and movement. It’s tricky to photograph all of the beautiful finishes in these products – the holographic paper is a lot of fun, and those thickers are really beautiful! I also added some shiny iridescent mist to finish off the page – mine is an old Maya Road bottle, but there is a similar one from Heidi Swapp – Sheer Color Shine.

In my hunting for prints I also found these two photos of my husband and son, and with all the blues in the shots and my little one wearing starry trousers I knew they would work well too. I picked out the background sheet first, and the card with the quote on it, and just built everything else up around those things, adding plenty of embellishments in a triangle around my photos to draw the eye in – on such a colourful and busy page you need those visual cues to keep your focus on the pictures sometimes!

So that’s all from me today, 3 pages from one set of supplies bought with a specific photo in mind. Thanks for stopping by!
