Amy Tangerine – Slice of Life – Part 2

Hi Magpies, it’s Caroline back with you again today. I have two 12×12” layouts and a traveler’s notebook page to share with you. All using the bright and fun Slice of Life collection from Amy Tangerine. There are some really nice colourful papers in this collection. Therefore, I have found myself using large pieces of the papers or full patterned paper backgrounds and keeping my embellishments fairly simple.

A Snowy Day In Oxford

For my first layout today, I chose to use the fabulous B-side of The Universe Paper as my background. I loved the big bold chevron pattern and wanted to keep it intact. Although, I did trim a little bit off each side, so that I could mat the whole thing onto black card. Giving the page a thin black border, which makes the colours in the background paper pop.

I selected four 3×4” photos, which I again matted onto black card. Positioning them at the bottom of the page, as I wanted the chevron pattern to point to my photos. I layered a strip of the B-side of the In A Twist Paper, under my photos. Fussy cutting along the pattern to give the piece a scalloped edge. I found this gave my photos a grounding, ready to build up the rest of the layout.

As the background paper is quite bold, I didn’t want to overload the layout. Therefore, I kept my embellishment simple. Choosing to place the ‘Explore’ and ‘Enjoy the now’ foam stickers from the Glitter Foam Phrase Thickers on the bottom left of the photos.

I then moved onto the title, using Puffy Alphabet stickers from the PinkFresh Studio Just A Little Lovely and Office Hours collections. Placing them above and to the right of my photos, as I wanted it to be on the opposite side to my embellishment. Even though I wanted to keep it simple, I felt these two areas needed something extra, therefore I added an odd number of white acrylic stars to each one.

To finish my page I added another embellishment cluster at the top left of the page. I fussy cut a camera from the All Smiles Paper. Adding it to a scrap of the scallop paper and a label from my stash. Also including another of the acrylic stars. I finished off the page by printing off my journaling and cutting it into strips.

The Perfect Photobomb

I also decided on a patterned paper background for my second layout. Choosing to use the B-side of the Falling For You Paper. I liked that it was a fairly neutral colour and reminded me of the sand in the photo. I wanted to pick up on some of the bright colours in the photo, but without overwhelming the page. The bright orangey colour of the B-side of the What a Ride Paper was perfect for this. Also I wanted to pick up on the blues in the photo, choosing to use the B-side of the Pink Lemonade Paper and a thin strip of the Bamboo Blues Paper. Finishing off my layers with the neutral B-side of the All Smiles Paper.

I knew that I wanted to place my title to the left of my 6×4” photo. Choosing to use the Glitter & Black Foil Foam Alphabet Thickers from the collection, along with the puffy alphabet stickers from PinkFresh Studio.

To form the base of my embellishment clusters I stuck a piece of the Wide Washi Tape Roll to a piece of white card. Then cut out some banners, tabs and arrows using my dies and punches. I love the pop of colour that these give on the page and it’s a really simple way to use your washi tapes. I chose to place these shapes in three areas, creating a diagonal line across the page. Also adding an arrow pointing to the title. I finished off with a couple of stickers from the collection and some wood veneers. Finally adding my printed journaling strips to the page and another fussy cut camera.

Favourite Moments

My third layout, which is a traveler’s notebook page came together really quickly. I really loved the rainbow chevron pattern of the Onward & Upward Paper and hadn’t used it, so I started with that. Cutting a strip slightly smaller than the page, to place on the right hand side.

I knew which photo I wanted to use for this page. Printing it at 3×4” and giving it a black mat, so that it stood out against that colourful background paper. Next, I cut out a number of flowers and leaves from the Flower Power Paper as the colours worked perfectly together. Placing them around the bottom right corner of the photo and then against the top left edge of the opposite page. I added a couple more to the top left of my photo and then moved onto my title.

I stamped my title using stamps from two of the Elle’s studio Title Builder sets. Stamps are perfect for travelers notebook pages, when you don’t want to add too much bulk with letter stickers. Next, I added a glitter scalloped border sticker from the 6×12” Cardstock Stickers, below the title. Finishing it off with another of the fussy cut flowers. I added a few more of the stickers to my embellishment clusters. Matting the rainbow heart and the hello sticker onto black first, to make them stand out more. I finished the page, by hand writing my journaling in the space on the left hand side.
