Ali Edwards Design Part 2| Jo Boland
This month I’m using a range of the Ali Edwards Design products which are new to the Hey Little Magpie store. The layouts I’ve made for this blog post feature my sons 14th birthday. This was the box of goodies I had to use.
Birthday Breakfast
For this layout I use the Heidi Swapp Emerson Lane paper ‘Details’, to me it already speaks Ali in it’s style. I trimmed the paper down a little, distressed the edges and matted it at an angle on a piece of light grey cardstock. I used the Pendleton Alphabet stickers in red for my title. It matched the red on our Cornishware plates in the photos perfectly.
I popped up the centre photo on foam pads and opposing corners of the other two photos to add dimension to the layout. I used a variety of word stickers; circle sticker, tab stickers and word strips and they are all in the one Story Planner bundle pack, happy days!
Finally I added some stamped words with the AE Days of the Week Roller Stamp and times with the Time Roller Stamp. I used Distress Oxide ink pads in Black Soot and Candied Apple.
What’s Inside?
For this layout my inspiration came from another Heidi Swapp Emerson Lane paper ‘True Stories’ and the colour yellow. My boys receive a parcel in the post from their grandparents in Northern Ireland on their birthdays. It often comes packaged in a cereal box and always contains bags of Tayto crisps, but the rest is always a surprise. I love the joy in Callum’s face as he’s about to open it!
I created a mixed media background to draw out the yellow and orange of the cereal box in the photo. To do this I used Distress Oxide sprays in Squeezed Lemonade and Dried Marigold and applied it using the packaging technique. Note, I used a white gesso layer first to reduce the warp on the paper. I allowed the background to dry, then trimmed the paper slightly and matted it on a piece of yellow cardstock. I fussy cut the yellow camera from the Maggie Holmes Sunny Days Snapshot paper and adhered it on top of an Ali Edwards white acrylic star. The Today sticker is from the Week in the Life Variety pack as is the Awesome transparent black circle sticker.
The title is St Helens Alphabet stickers and the yellow and black label stickers are from the One Little Word Label Sticker Bundle pack. The black word stickers and the yellow tab are from the Story Planner sticker bundle and the blue word strip stickers are from the Week in the Life Phrase Sticker Bundle. Lastly I decided the layout could do with some black splatters, so I added some water to the Ali Edwards Black Butte acrylic paint and tapped my paintbrush over the layout, covering the photo as I did it.
