A sketch for summer

Hello, and happy July!
I’ve got a sketch for you today, along with a couple of example pages using a selection of lovely products from the shop. I love a sketch for its ability to help me overcome crafter’s block, and I’ve always enjoyed making multiple pages from the same sketch and giving each a different twist. At this time of year I’m spending a lot more of my time outdoors, so I crave a craft fix that is speedy and slots into my shorter evenings. Sketches to the rescue!
I used various items from the shop in my pages below including the following:
Heidi Swapp Pineapple Crush
Simple Stories Oh Baby
Simple Stories Hello Summer
Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful
MAMBI Happy Planner Colourful Boxes Sticker Book
Pink Paislee Auburn Lane Mini Copper/Rose Gold Thickers
Without further ado, here is the first page I created with the sketch, which you will find a little lower down the page. I have been saving that Dear Lizzy multicolour stripe paper for a while and this page design was a great way to show it off in a nice big chunk of colour, which isn’t too hidden underneath layers and embellishments. I matched my other products to the colours in those stripes, using the colour scheme as my starting point.

As a flamingo fan, the inclusion of a flamingo icon seemed logical enough for a page celebrating my birthday, and helped to set the tone for the other embellishments I chose – tropical looking leaves and flowers. I added gorgeous puffy hearts from the Heidi Swapp collection, and some transparent elements, also from Heidi Swapp. The big glittery word is from Dear Lizzy and comes in a pack of 8 (half gold glitter, half white glitter) – perfect for adding a beautiful text element to your page. In amongst my layers you can see some of the colourful boxes stickers from MAMBI – this sticker book is designed with planners in mind, but I see packed full of various sizes and colours of boxes which are just ideal for adding layers and also for journalling and who/where/when information – there’s 594 stickers in the book, so you won’t run out for a short while!

Here’s the sketch I used to make the page above, and the one below. You can see that my first page closely resembles the sketch, but for my second page I turned it on it’s side and changed a few of the details. Using it more of a starting point and then not referring to it again, or keeping your page as close to the sketch as possible – either is a useful strategy.

My second page below features a photo taken at Disneyland Paris with one of my favourites – Eeyore. Poor Eeyore, he’s always so gloomy, but even he appears to be smiling in this photo which is proof in my mind that we were in one of the happiest places on earth!

This time I took my colour scheme from the starry paper which is from Simple Stories Oh Baby. This is a gorgeous collection of not-too-muted pastels and woodgrain. There are of course some baby themed elements, but there’s also plenty of scope for other themes. I cut the “Smile” portion of my title from another Simple Stories paper (Hello Summer range) and added die cuts and Thickers to it for completion. A couple of pink bows on the page are a nod to Eeyore’s tail, and I added some sunshine and rain elements as depiction of mood.

Thanks for reading, and if you do create with the sketch we’d love to see the results on Facebook or Instagram.
Enjoy the sunshine and happy crafting!
